American Idol Review 3/20/07
Tonight's Idol chatter...
Hayley Scarnato was up first with, "Tell Him", she did so well coming off the starting block. She looked great, what a gorgeous girl, lots of personality tonight! While her voice was without, Simon surely can't say America won't remember her. If this was a competition that wasn't about singing, she would have done amazingly well. She is, afterall, much better than many pop stars on the charts today- Ashley Simpson, for one example.
Chris Richardson was second in line with "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying" He is my boy!! (I'm using my English to "Dawg" Dictionary tonight). Love him! Not crazy about his song choice. But DAMN did he sing the hell out of it! He can sing anything. I'd listen to him sing the phonebook, LOL! And could he BE any cuter? Love, Love, Love him!!!!!
Stephanie Edwards is up next with "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". As I was watching her I couldn't help but see how uncomfortable she looked on stage. With some confidence she could be comparable to Beyonce.
Blake Lewis, another front runner in my opinion, was next in tonight's line up. He started the song off with his trademark beat-boxing on "Time of the Season." The arrangement was really good, kudos belong to whoever did it! He really modernized this song. He is a true artist.
LaKisha (has proven "Diva-ness" of first name worthiness), with "Diamonds are Forever." She will be so good on Broadway. No worries...you will never have to work a blue collar job again my dear...But I hated, hated, hated the song choice. She should have taken the advice of veteran performer LULU
Phil Stacey brought "Tobacco Road." Who knew this kid could rock? Really good song choice, he really got into it and I actually enjoyed the performance. For once, I whole-heartedly disagreed with Simon. It was a good performance. He gave it his all, he deserves to come back next week.
Jordin Sparks sang "I Who Have Nothing"-I'd actually never heard this song before, I loved it! And Jordin, one word: AMAZING!!! Like I said before, she has just begun to show us what she can do. Oh, and she looked beautiful also.
Sanjaya (has also gained first name status, but for different reasons) 8th up to bat, with "You really got me." There were little pre-teens girls actually screaming and crying in the audience, how funny! I'm just glad he didn't do something crazy stupid to his Ferra Faucet-like hair. I'll leave it there.
Gina Glockson, who is my favorite girl primarily because she was a regular performer at the Brat Stop, a venue in my hometown, also the first place I ever got wasted (while underage). She had a great look tonight, cute hair cut and color. "Paint It Black" was her song choice. I just didn't get it, any of it. I am still rooting for you girl, but Simon was spot on the mark with his review.
Chris Sligh, what first had me rooting for the guy, now has me leaving the room when he sings. He is a great guy, super funny, great personality (off-stage), but a very humble voice. Bold move emerging from the audience at the start of the song, but then again, confidence is something that never appeared to be lacking in Chris. I was just so bored with his performance, I am bored with him period. Pack your bags Chris, you are going home.
Melinda Doolittle sang "As Long As He Needs Me"....What can you say about Melinda? Barbara Streisand caliber. It can be as simply summed up as that.
