Death according to Lazarus...
Who Knew I Was So Patriotic?
Ask any of my friends, they will tell you I think I'm from New Zealand. I have always felt a connection to NZ. When I backpacked through the north and south islands, that feeling was confirmed. I was home. So, that may make you think I am anti-US. Not so, in a way. While I am not happy with a lot of things in the US right now, I support our troops in any and everyway I can. I admire them and thank them for defending the country I live in (notice I didn't say the country that is my home).
So last night I was taken aback at my own feelings of American pride. It was my best friend's son's Elementary (he's in Kindergarden) concert. It was Awesome! A Star-Spangled Extravagnza!
I always cry during the Star Spangled Banner...it's pretty pathetic, actually.
Tonight, I cried to that and then got teary-eyed at many of these also:
Yankee Doodle
The Spirit of America
Grand Old Flag
Stars and Stripes Forever
This Is My Country
Of Thee We Sing
America, I Give My Thanks to you
Battle Hymn of the Republic
This Land is You and Me
Blue, Red and White
Song of Peace
God Bless the USA
America...Yes the Neil Diamond song
and God Bless America
But this is where I REALLY lost it: Military Medley...and all the service men past and present stood when their song was played...that was it. I was teary-eyed most of the evening, but this was the part that caused me to sob.
Why? Why had this evoked such feelings from me? I have friends who are in the service, and I don't cry whenever I see them, or even think of them...It was just an overwhelming over-powering moment and I whole-heartedly gave in to it and let go.
